Recycling & Sustainability

Recycling

Recyclables can be placed in the tan recycling cart for collection. When an item’s useful life is completed, it is important to recycle. Recycling turns the materials from that item into something new and reduces the need to extract raw materials. Recycling helps conserve valuable resources and reduces the greenhouse gas footprint and climate change impacts of materials.

Recycle Right! Use this guide to choose which items to recycle. All items must be empty, clean, and dry!

Contamination

Contamination is a major recycling issue and lowers the value of the materials. When in doubt, it’s best to “check it out” by asking whether the material can be recycled or “chuck it out” (in the garbage) so as not to contaminate the other recyclables. Be sure to place only acceptable items in the tan cart. Please leave out glass, bags, and anything with food waste. Remember to keep your recyclables clean, dry and empty before adding them to the mixed recycling. Learn about recycling basics and preventing recycling contamination with items that do not belong in the cart.
